Contractors work on the foundation of the new FCC stadium.

The new soccer stadium going up in the West End has cleared another hurdle. Cincinnati's planning commission approved the final development plan Friday morning.

Greg Otis with Elevar Design Group says that includes the superstructure of the stadium, but not the design.

The foundation was approved in January with construction beginning April 1. Otis says the next step is getting approval for the final look. He expects to be back before the planning commission in July or August with renderings.

"We'll be asking for approvals for the skin of the building, the exterior. What it's going to look like; how it will be lit; what the landscaping is going to be like; what the paving is going to be like," he says.

The final development plan will include reports from a contractor on the environmental impact of the stadium, including expected noise levels.

The construction timetable calls for the stadium to be completed before the 2021 Major League Soccer season starts in early spring.
