Ohio's primary election was supposed to be held on March 17, St. Patrick's Day, but that came to a screeching halt the night of March 16, only hours before the polling places were to open, when Ohio Health Department Director Dr. Amy Acton ordered the polls to remain closed to protect voters from people carrying the COVID-19 virus.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose wanted to reschedule the election for June 2, but Democrats and LaRose's fellow Republicans in the Ohio General Assembly had other ideas. Wednesday, the legislators passed a bill saying Ohioans can vote by absentee ballot through April 28.

WVXU Senior Political Analyst Howard Wilkinson spoke with News Director Maryanne Zeleznik, laying out everything we know so far about how the all-absentee primary will work.
