Citizens for Responsible Solar is part of a growing backlash against renewable energy in rural communities across the United States. The group has helped local groups fighting solar projects in at least 10 states including Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania, according to its website.

Butler County is one of many Ohio counties and townships banning solar farms after Ohio Senate Bill 52 gave local governments the power to reject solar farm proposals.

Fourteen solar farms are in the works (including Cincinnati's) in Highland County. More are planned for Clinton and Brown counties. Solar has become a hot topic in the upcoming commissioner's race there — but will whoever is elected have a say?
