Mark Heyne Becomes Fulltime Host Of Cincinnati Edition

Cincinnati Edition, the daily talk show produced by Cincinnati Public Radio’s 91.7 WVXU (and heard on 91.7, 88.5 WMUB ), has named veteran news reporter Mark Heyne to be the first fulltime host of the program beginning Monday, October 20.

Heyne (a Liberty Township resident) has been one of the rotating hosts of Cincinnati Edition since it became a daily show on July 1, 2013, as well as the daily afternoon host during WVXU’s broadcast of All Things Considered from NPR. A new afternoon host will be named shortly.

Mark Heyne has been heard on the Cincinnati airwaves for nearly 30 years, remaining with the WVXU news team when the station became part of Cincinnati Public Radio in 2005. “I’m really excited to become the full-time host of Cincinnati Edition,” said Heyne. “Since its inception, the show has been a unique community forum, a place for a civil discussion about the issues and events in Cincinnati. My goal is to expand on the successful nature of the show and keep it moving forward as a place where listeners can discover what’s happening in Cincinnati and what makes the city tick. It’s a privilege for me to get to take on this role.”

“We are happy to have Mark as the fulltime host of Cincinnati Edition. Along with his excellent interview skills, he will provide the program with the consistent sound and continuity that our listeners value” said Chris Phelps, vice-president of content for Cincinnati Public Radio. “This also allows Maryanne Zeleznik and Jay Hanselman to return to their news duties fulltime and for Mark Perzel to create and host a new program, The Book Club @91.7, which will premiere on October 11. Howard Wilkinson will continue to appear on those Cincinnati Edition programs with political topics and Ann Thompson’s ‘Focus on Technology’ will also continue as a regular feature.”

After the Cincinnati Edition broadcast on Friday, October 3 at 1:00pm, the show will take a two-week hiatus for renovations to the broadcast studio. During that time, WVXU will air a series of provocative and interesting specials at 1:00pm for listeners’ midday enjoyment.

Cincinnati Edition will return on Monday, October 20 at 1:00pm.
