This weekend is serving up plenty of things to do around the Tri-State.

Thursday, August 9
- Head north for a visit to Film Festival Columbus, which kicked off Wednesday at the Gateway Film Center (1550 North High Street, Columbus). The four-day event screens films by both amateur and established filmmakers in categories like animation, documentary, TV and shorts. Tickets are $69.
- Country band The Tillers play Oxford's free summer concert series at Uptown Park (West High Street and Main, Oxford) starting at 7 p.m.
- The Mini Microcinema (1329 Main Street) shows The Cockettes, a tale about the rise and fall of San Francisco's legendary theatrical troupe of hippies and drag queens from 1969-72. Doors to this free screening open at 7 p.m.
- At 6 p.m. Dick Waller's ArtPlace (130 West Court Street) kicks off a two-week pop-up fundraiser exhibit benefiting Joseph House. Artist Russell Nelson, a one-time resident of the nonprofit treatment facility for veterans, will show his acrylic work highlighting his road to recovery. A portion of all proceeds will go to the Over-the-Rhine organization.
Friday, August 10
- The "psychobilly" trio Reverand Horton Heat plays Fountain Square starting at 7 p.m.
- From 7-11 p.m., Cincinnati Nature Center (4949 Tealtown Road, Milford) holds another Hoots and Hops, an evening that allows you to explore trails and local craft beers. Tickets for the 21-and-up event are $35.
- Gates to the Bellwether Music Festival at Renaissance Park (10542 OH-73, Waynesville) open at noon. Performers at the the two-day, two-stage event include MGMT, The Flaming Lips, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs and more. Tickets start at $65.
- From 8:30-9:30 p.m., Sharon Woods (11450 Lebanon Road, Sharonville) hosts a family friendly Night Hike, exploring the sights, sounds and smells (yes, smells) of nocturnal animals.
Saturday, August 11
- It's the first day of the Western & Southern Open at place the Lindner Family Tennis Center (5460 Courseview Drive, Mason). Champions Grigor Dimitrov and Garbiñe Muguruza return to defend their winning titles. The first match is at 10 a.m. and the last at noon on Sunday, August 19. Tickets start at $27.
- WEBN holds a Fireworks Countdown Party at Fountain Square featuring STP2, a Stone Temple Pilots tribute band, starting at 7 p.m.
- It's 1940s Day at Lunken Airport (262 Wilmer Avenue). Starting at 10 a.m., travel back in time with the Cincinnati Museum Center, WWII vets, a Holocaust survivor, classic cars and vintage airplanes, including a B-25 bomber and an honor flight. The day is free for veterans and CMC members; for all others, tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
- From 6-8 p.m., Huffman Park (2100 John Gray Road, Fairfield) puts on Blues & BBQ with a free concert by The Voice contestant Chandler Carter and food for sale by Hammann's and Kona Ice.
- The Carnegie (1028 Scott Blvd., Covington) puts on a performance of Dreamgirls, the Tony Award-winning play based on the true story of The Supremes. Performances take place Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through August 26 and tickets start at $23.
- Summermusik welcomes violinist Celeste Golden Boyer with a performance titled "The Four Seasons: Reimagined," based on Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons." The show at the School for Creative and Performing Arts (108 W. Central Parkway) starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults; $10 for children.
- R&B group The Mistics put on a free concert at Winton Woods (10245 Winton Road) starting at 7 p.m.
- The Indiana Audubon Society hosts its first Hummingbird Migration Celebration at Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary (3499 South Bird Sanctuary Road, Connersville). Starting at 9 a.m., the event will feature bird walks, hummingbird banding demonstrations, kids crafts, live bird of prey shows, a plant sale and more. Pre-sale tickets are $10; $15 day-of. Children age 17 and under are free.
- From 1-3 p.m., The National Underground Freedom Center (50 E. Freedom Way) holds a ceremony for its Picture Freedom Awards, recognizing scholarship recipients in a competition that challenged students to create art capturing America's struggle for inclusive freedom and equality. The students' work will be showcased through February 2019.
Sunday, August 12
- Second Sunday on Main (Main between 12th and Liberty streets) returns to Over-the-Rhine starting at noon and features live music performances, vendors, a biergarten and more.
- Cincy Shakes comes to Glenwood Gardens (10397 Springfield Pike) for a free performance of Julius Caesar. The show starts at 7 p.m. but arrive as early as 5 p.m. for kids crafts and activities, plus refreshments available for purchase.
- Ease into the close of your Sunday with a jazz performance by The Phil DeGreg Trio, which plays Dee Felice Café (529 Main Street, Covington) from 5-8 p.m.
- It is the last day to see the Terracotta Army at the Cincinnati Art Museum (953 Eden Park Drive). Make sure you pay them a visit before they're gone. Tickets are timed, so plan ahead.
