TAKE10 CINCINNATI TRAINING—with UC Health Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 6:00—7:00 pm Free. Adults and Teens. Registration Required.
TAKE10 Cincinnati is a grassroots effort involving citizens, rescuers and doctors designed to educate and rally the community about compression-only CPR, an easy-to-learn technique that can save lives. The more people who receive TAKE10 training, the better chance we all have of surviving a sudden cardiac arrest.
Developed by Take Heart Austin and brought to Cincinnati by UC Health, TAKE10 is a free training on the hands-only technique that gives people the confidence to act in an emergency. TAKE10 focuses on 3 key things:• Check for breathing. • Call 911. • Compress hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives.
Learn correct hand placement, depth of compression and proper rate. You will also be introduced to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), how it works and how to use it. *TAKE10 is not a CPR certification course.
The Tyler Davidson Fountain was unveiled in Cincinnati in November of 1871 and has since become an iconic and beloved treasure of public art in our city. But who is the real woman known as the Genius of the Waters? What do all the characters in the fountain symbolize? Based on the great fountains of Europe, it had a sordid three years of design changes and cost increases. This untold story behind its design and fabrication at the Bavarian Royal Foundry in Munich is guaranteed to surprise and delight. Based on letters between Fredrick von Muller of the Royal Foundry and patron Tyler Davidson, this sordid story tells of a diva artist who couldn’t be kept on track, two budding young artist brothers who both made a name for themselves with other art projects in America, a European war and a Cincinnati city councilman/Cumminsville brewer which almost prevented the fountain’s delivery. The artistry behind this fountain tells of how it still inspires us over 150 years later in a modern world.
Catching fireflies on warm, summer nights was a favorite part of my childhood. I learned that male fireflies flashed and glowed to find a mate, but I never knew there were hundreds of kinds of fireflies, including ones that were poisonous, venomous pack hunters, mimics, or even cannibals!
Join me, Matthew Speights, to discover the hidden world of fireflies and the amazing diversity of their species, behaviors, and lifestyles. We’ll discover the strategies fireflies use to survive snow, avoid predators like bats, or share information as they flash with yellow, green, and even orange lights. In the process, we’ll learn why fireflies are disappearing, what their environmental needs are, and what we can do to help them survive.
Bonus: Get a preview of the Spring Treetop Flasher, the first glowing firefly of Spring, that we will hike to see tomorrow night.. Meet at Kirby Nature Preserve, 2 East Main Street in Addyston, Ohio. Free, RSVP as space is limited.

This hilarious world premiere comedy sees a family upside-down as they do everything but tell the truth to get what they need.
Families, are we right? Steph has typical mid-life woes on her plate: a precocious daughter about to graduate high school and an absentee father who just moved in, who may or may not be faking dementia—oh, and did we mention she has a little bit of cancer? Steph has ulterior motives for letting in her dad and a grand scheme to pull it off. When the family gathers for a birthday party with a hidden agenda, they’re forced to confront the truths they’ve been too afraid to acknowledge. The 2022 winner of the Jackie Demaline playwriting competition, this world premiere comedy hilariously reflects on how families aren’t always well matched.
