Lead Found At Sports Field, But How Big Is The Risk?
Hamilton County Public Health says Taylor Creek Youth Organization in Whitewater Township hosts baseball, softball and soccer games, and in the winter is home to a weekly turkey shoot.
A press release from the health department says a citizen complaint to the Ohio EPA raised the question about lead poisoning from the use of the fields for shooting. Indeed, inspectors found shotgun shells and lead.
Health Commissioner Tim Ingram says the risks to children who've played on the fields are small, but says anyone who is concerned should talk with their doctor. The department will continue testing the soil to determine the extent of the contamination.
