Organizations Offer Support To Abuse Victims

Support is available for those who have suffered sexual harassment or assault.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics' recent National Crime Victimization Survey estimates that people in the U.S. experienced more than 320,000 incidents of rape and sexual assault in 2016. The majority of incidents of abuse are reported by women, but men are also victims, and research suggests men face an even greater stigma in reporting sexual assault than women.

Founded in 1973, Women Helping Women empowers survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence,?and stalking by providing advocacy, support, and options for safety and educates the?community to create social change.

Another local organization, A Voice for the Innocent, is dedicated to the support of those affected by rape and sexual abuse. The non-profit community provides survivors a safe and compassionate space to share their stories, and uses music and technology to provide access to long term resources.

Joining "Cincinnati Edition" to discuss abuse prevention and services to help victims are, from Women Helping Women, Vice President of Programming Kendra Massey and Director of Butler County and Rural Services Casey Frazee Katz; and Founder and President of A Voice for the Innocent, Jamie Sivrais.
