UC's Ohio Poll: Obama-Romney a near dead heat

President Obama holds a two percentage point lead over Republican Mitt Romney in the Ohio Pollreleased Wednesday afternoon by the University of Cincinnati's Institute for Policy Research.

That is well within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percent, meaning the race in Ohio is extremely close and the end result is a toss-up.

The poll had Obama with 48 percent support to 46 percent for Romney.

The poll showed two percent saying they would vote for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson and another two percent saying they don't yet know who they are voting for.

Earlier in the day, Quinnipiac University Polling Institute released a pollshowing Obama with a five percentage point lead over Romney.

A poll done by by the Institute of Policy Research for Ohio's eight largest newspapers that was released Sunday had the presidential race a flat tie at 49 percent each.

The poll released Wednesday also looked at the fiercely contended U.S. Senate race in Ohio, and found that Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown had a five percentage point lead over Republican challenger Josh Mandel.

In the latest poll, 1,182 likely voters were interviewed by the Ohio Poll between Oct. 25 and Oct. 30.
