Groundbreaking for District 3 Police Headquarters

Update:  Construction crews will soon begin work on a new police headquarters for Cincinnati's District Three.  Officials and residents gathered Monday for a ground breaking at the location on Ferguson Road near Glenway.  It will replace the current facility that was built in 1908.   New police chief Jeffrey Blackwell said it will be good for the department.  The $15 million project is expected to be completed in the spring 2015.

Cincinnati is getting ready to build its first new police building in decades.  Officials will break ground later today for a new District Three headquarters near Ferguson and Glenway.

The new facility will be nearly twice the size of the current location on Warsaw Avenue in East Price Hill that was built 1908.  The city paid 325-thousand dollars for the property at 2300 Ferguson Road in Westwood.

Officials initially considered 27 proposed locations and eventually reduced that list to four before making a final selection.  The city expects the project to be completed in the spring of 2015.

The new location will have 39-thousand square feet and include a public plaza.  City Council included funding for the new headquarter's in the capital budget it approved last December.  District Three encompasses 14 city neighborhoods on the city's westside.
