After seven years Aaron Betsky is leaving as Director of the Cincinnati Art Museum. He says he will explore other academic and museum opportunities. "The museum now has the programming and staff in place, and the financial stability that will allow me to openly pursue my next position."

The museum says its Board will be setting up a search committee and Betsky will help pick his successor. Betsky, an architect, came to Cincinnati in 2006 from Rotterdam, where he was the Director of the Netherlands Architecture Institute.

Dave Dougherty, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Cincinnati Art Museum said, "(Betsky) brought a vision, energy and acumen that will continue to serve the museum into the future."

Betsky's accomplishments according to the museum:

  • Increased the endowment by 18%
  • Oversaw first phase of renovation and raised more than $13 million to fund it
  • Oversaw the renovation of several permanent collection galleries
  • Pioneered the creation of highly focused presentations of works of art
  • Spearheaded the reinvigoration and expansion of educational programs
