If you'll be driving southbound this weekend, plan your route carefully. I-71 southbound between Dana Avenue and Taft Road will be closed from 10 o'clock Friday night until 5 a.m. Monday.

Ohio Department of Transportation spokeswoman Sharon Smigielski says crews are taking down a railroad bridge to make way for the new Martin Luther King/I-71 interchange. To expedite the process, the highway will be shutdown while crews drop sections of the overpass onto the highway.

"The first cut will be a 60 foot section which they'll drop to the pavement, cut into 30 foot sections and haul away," says Smigielski. "There'll be two other 30 foot sections that they'll cut, drop to the pavement and haul away."

Traffic will be detoured across the Norwood Lateral to I-75, which is also under construction, so be sure to leave plenty of extra time to reach your destination.

Northbound I-71 will have to be shutdown at a later date to complete the bridge removal work.
