Tracie Hunter asks appeals court to postpone her sentence

Hamilton County Juvenile Court

Suspended Juvenile Court Judge Tracie Hunter has asked the Ohio First District Court of Appeals to release her on bail and postpone her sentencing while she appeals her conviction on a criminal charge.

Earlier this month, the trial judge, Common Pleas Court Judge Norbert Nadel, denied a motion by Hunter's lawyer, Clyde Bennett II, to postpone her jail sentence while she appeals the case. Nadel ordered that she begin her jail term on Dec. 29.

Hunter was sentenced to six months in jail and six months probation for her conviction on a felony charge of unlawful interest in a public contract. The jury could not reach a verdict on eight other charges.

Bennett told WVXU he filed the motion Monday.

A spokesperson for the Ohio First District Court of Appeals said this morning that the motion has yet to be assigned to a three judge panel of the appeals court.

The special prosecutors in the case could not be reached for comment immediately.
