The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is honoring the late B.B. King this weekend by displaying one of his Gibson Lucille guitars. The guitar is signed by King and was donated to the museum. It was last on display in 2012.
"Lucille" will be part of the Everyday Freedom Heroes gallery this Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
King died in his sleep May 14.
In a statement, the museum writes:
As a young man growing up in the segregated South to a family of sharecroppers, B.B. King was passionate about civil rights. Through his powerful, soulful music, B.B. King brought the Blues genre and a segment of the African American experience to mainstream America. His music and legacy will continue to touch the hearts of future generations and help shape conversations about the Black experience in America.
