Great Parks Sets Levy Amount Request

Great Parks of Hamilton County

Great Parks of Hamilton County will ask taxpayers to approve a $9.45 levy increase this fall.

The parks board approved a 1 mill replacement levy Tuesday afternoon.

Public Affairs Manager Jennifer Sivak says the levy would pay for projects like improving water quality in park lakes, especially Sharon Lake, to improve recreational use, and reforesting areas affected by the Emerald Ash Borer.

"Another area could be our bike trails," she says. "We've made significant progress on the Little Miami Scenic Trail. We added in the 3.1 mile extension this year (and) we'd love to be able to continue on with the construction of the bridge. That would be something we would do with the funds in conjunction with finding outside sources of funding."

The 10-year levy would cost about $35 per every $100,000 of home value. The current 15-year levy costs $25.55 per $100,000 of valuation. It would bring in an estimated $18,348,376 per year.

The current 1 mill levy would expire at the end of 2017. If taxpayers approve the proposed levy Nov. 8, 2016, it would rescind and replace the current one.
