Findlay Market Makes List Of 15 Great Places In America
Cincinnati's Findlay Market is one of the American Planning Association's (APA) 15 Great Places in America for 2016. The organization annually puts out a list of its 15 great neighborhoods, streets and public spaces at the start of National Community Planning Month.Great Public Spaces are selected for representing "the gold standard in terms of having a true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for the future," according to a statement from the APA.
Findlay Market is being recognized for being Ohio's oldest and Cincinnati's last remaining municipal market, "but also a public gathering space that encourages community interaction across socio-economic boundaries."
APA further cites the Market for encouraging revitalization and reinvestment in Over-the Rhine, its pedestrian-friendly accessibility (curb cuts, graded ramps, access to various modes of transportation), variety of businesses and gathering spaces, and community events.
Findlay Market Board President Molly North says the Market is honored by the designation. "Customers come to Findlay for more than a grocery trip - they come for the experience."
Fifth Street in Dayton's historic Oregon District was named to the 2015 list of Great Streets.
