FC Cincinnati Continues Open Cup Winning Streak

Goalkeeper Mitch Hildebrand recorded a shut out against Miami FC in Wednesday night's US Open Cup victory.

Soccer club FC Cincinnati defeated Miami FC Wednesday night to advance to the semi-finals of the U.S. Open Cup.

The final score was 1-nil off a 68th minute goal from Djiby Fall at Riccardo Silva Stadium in Miami.FC Cincinnati next hosts the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer on Aug. 15 at 8 p.m. at Nippert Stadium. Djiby Fall will miss the match because of yellow card accumulation.

FCC hasn't allowed a goal in Open Cup play, defeating AFC Cleveland, Louisville City FC and Columbus Crew SC. The club then held the Chicago Fire scoreless before advancing on penalty kicks to play Miami.

The win against Miami makes FC Cincinnati the first lower division team to advance to the Open Cup semi-finals since 2011. The two were scheduled to meet last month but the game was postponed because of severe weather.

FC Cincinnati plays in the United Soccer League (USL). Miami FC plays in the North American Soccer League (NASL), both in the second division of U.S. Soccer.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup soccer tournament in the United States. It's also the second longest continually operating tournament in the world, according to Josh Hakala who runs The Cup, a website that tracks the Open Cup.
