Hamilton Co. Looking To Use Vehicle Fee For Western Hills Viaduct
Hamilton County Commissioners are considering using a new annual Motor Vehicle License $5 fee to help to pay the local match required for state and federal funding of the Western Hills Viaduct reconstruction.
Commissioner Denise Driehaus says the viaduct is a vital infrastructure project.
“We need to secure our local match now to get the project done as soon as possible and as cost effective as possible.”
The reconstruction is estimated to cost over $335 million. The local match needs to be at least 20 percent of that to apply for state and federal funding. The fee would also be used to pay for other bridge projects in Hamilton county.
The commissioners will hold two public hearings:
- November 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Warsaw Federal Incline Theater.
- November 8 at 11:30 a.m. at the County Administration Building.
