Coronavirus
As a new strain of coronavirus (COVID-19) swept through the world in 2020, preparedness plans, masking policies and more public policy changed just as quickly. WVXU has covered the pandemic's impact on the Tri-State from the very beginning, when on March 3, 2020, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine barred spectators from attending the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus over concerns about the virus, even though Ohio had yet to confirm a single case of COVID-19.

With concerns about the coronavirus, many people are hesitant to enter hospitals and doctor's offices, and that may include parents whose children need regular check-ups. But pediatricians are trying to get the word out to families that their offices have been open during the pandemic, and it is still safe to schedule child-well visits.

According to pediatrician Chris Peltier, MD, there has been a decline in the number of patients receiving their childhood immunizations during the first weeks of the stay-at-home order, both in his practice at Pediatric Associates of Mount Carmel in Cincinnati, and nationwide.

Dr. Peltier - a Pediatric Associates of Mount Carmel pediatrician, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine professor of pediatrics and Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics president-elect - joins Cincinnati Edition to discuss the importance of child-well visits and immunizations under the pandemic.

Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
