Author J.D. Vance’s memoir Hillbilly Elegy explored life in his hometown of Middletown and the lives of his Kentucky relatives in Appalachia. The wildly successful book is now being made into a movie, and while much of it will be filmed outside the area, Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard has done some work for the picture in the Butler County city.
It's the latest feather in the cap for Film Cincinnati, the local champion for attracting cinematic productions to the Cincinnati area, including a string of popular films like Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile starring Zac Efron, and The Old Man and the Gun starring Robert Redford.
Even more recently, the popular action game show American Ninja Warrior shot near the Ohio River downtown.

First, Film Cincinnati is gearing up for its annual fundraiser that transforms part of Lunken Airport into a star-studded attraction.
