Simon L. Leis Jr. — former judge, prosecutor and sheriff — left a mixed legacy when he died June 27.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, July 10 at 12:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter in Chains Downtown. A procession from the funeral home begins just before 9 a.m.

Leis served as sheriff for more than a quarter century.
