In recent years, Cincinnati has celebrated its lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community through parades, official resolutions, flags and legislation.
But the city's relationship with LGBTQ people through the decades has been complicated and often fraught with legalized discrimination or discomfort.
From the fight over Issue 3 and the Mapplethorpe exhibit to the large Cincinnati Pride celebration that runs through the streets of Downtown each June, that story is profiled through images in the new book Images of Modern America: LGBTQ Cincinnati by Ken Schneck, who joins Cincinnati Edition to talk about it.
Listen to Cincinnati Edition live at noon M-F. Audio for this segment will be uploaded after 4 p.m. ET.
