A Review Of Findings From A WCPO Investigation Involving The Catholic Church

WCPO I-Team has released athree-month long investigation into how the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Diocese of Covington tracks and monitors priests who have been accused of child sexual assault.

Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss their investigation and findings are WCPO I-Team reporter Paula Christian; and Rittgers and Rittgers Attorneys at Law partner Konrad Kircher, Esq., who appeared in the WCPO series. 

WVXU reached out to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Diocese of Covington for comment and to participate in today’s discussion. 

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati has referred us to their website’sCommunication and Mission Promotion page, which reads in part “There are no archdiocesan priests in active ministry who have had a substantiated allegation of sexual abuse of a minor. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati is committed to doing everything possible to eliminate this horrific evil from our parishes and schools. Please report any suspected abuse on the part of any agent of the archdiocese to the appropriate civil authorities, as well as to the Coordinator of Ministry to Survivors of Abuse in the archdiocese.”

The Diocese of Covington Communications Director Laura Keener referred us to an article she wrote for the Messengerand stated that an independent review of all priest files dating back to 1950 is underway.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati and the Archdiocese of Covington declined to participate in today’s discussion.
