One of the largest music festivals of its kind in the U.S., with roots dating back to 1962, kicks off Friday night at Paul Brown Stadium. The Macy's Music Festival features R&B, jazz, soul and hip-hop. Organizers say most of the nearly 50,000 people attending are coming from out of town. Consequently, downtown hotels are filled.

Macy's Facebook page reports one fan has come all the way from Germany.

Just in time for the festival, Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory named Bootsy Collins the Cincinnati Grant Ambassador of Funk.
