West Nile infects two people in Hamilton County

Add Hamilton County to the list of places in Ohio which have identified human cases of the West Nile Virus.

Hamilton Countyreports two cases coming from the western side of town. That brings the number of Ohiocases to eleven.

Hamilton County Public Health reports WNV is a viral disease affecting the central nervous system. It can be transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. Eighty percent of people report no symptoms at all.

Experts caution people should Drain, (standing water) Dunk, (apply mosquito larvicide) and Protect (cut grass, wear long sleeves and pants during peak mosquito hours-dawn and dusk, use an insect repellent containing DEET)

Infections remain high nationally thanks to a wet spring and summertime drought conditions.
