World Cup viewing party today on Fountain Square

The World Cup is in full swing in Brazil. The United States plays its first match Monday against Ghana.

Development group3CDC and the Cincinnati Saints are hosting a watch party on Fountain Square. Brittney Carden says 3CDC is seeing growing interest in the sport.

"When you start getting requests for it and the requests become more frequent and more often, then it's really something worth looking into," says Carden. "So far, the feedback we've received has been amazingly positive. People are really excited to see what we have to offer and take in these games on our big screen."

Carden says the event will include food, beer, family activities and a DJ.

Carden says this is the first of three planned events. "So if you can't make one, you've still got two more. Or, come see them all. I think they're going to be fantastic matches if you've never seen the United States play."

Bars and restaurants around Greater Cincinnati are capitalizing on the month-long competition as well, offering food and drink specials and giveaways to lure customers. Members of the the supporters group American Outlaws will gather for U.S. Men's National Team Games at Molly Malone's in Covington.
