Local home sales climb slightly

December home sales in the Cincinnati area were up from a year ago, but not by much.

The Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors reports 1,616 sales last month, compared with 1,608 in December 2013.  Northern Kentucky Realtors say their gain was similar: 397 sales in December of 2014, and 388 in December 2013.

However, total sales for 2014 are different for the two sides of the river.  In Ohio, there was a drop in sales of 1.7 percent , while Northern Kentucky sales grew by 1.84 percent.

Realtors from both groups are optimistic though.

“2014 was an excellent year for real estate,” said Joe Mock, President of the Cincinnati Area Board of Realtors. “December sales ended on a strong note, highlighted by low interest rates and affordable housing,”

A press release from Art Reed, President of the Northern Kentucky Association of Realtors, says the slight increase they recorded is good news for both buyers and sellers because it demonstrates the economy is growing and housing is affordable in Northern Kentucky.

Average prices were up in both areas.  In December the Cincinnati area prices were up 4.7 percent from a year ago.  Northern Kentucky’s prices were up just under half a percent.
