Westwood Takes Preemptive Strike Against Crime

Cincinnati Police are analyzing crime data in Westwood to determine who and what are causing violent crime to spike and how the community can help stop it.

In a meeting Friday, Crime Analyst Joe Lorenz told new District 3 Captain Aaron Jones and the Vice President of the Westwood Civic Association Shawntee Stallworth Schramm the intersections of Boudinot and Harrison and Harrison and McHenry are some of the worst spots for drug and gang related crime.

So far this year there have been 35 shootings in Westwood, compared to 10 last year.

All agree there has to be a multi-faceted approach, including community involvement. Westwood Uniting to Stop the Violence: A Call to Actionis planned for Saturday, November 14 from 8:30-12:00 noon at Westwood United Methodist Church, 3460 Epworth Avenue. More information is also onthe association's Facebook page.

The program will take place in the gym and include data review, problem identification, and a time to develop solutions. This is the first in a series of community work meetings. Doreen Cudnik is with the Community Police Partnering Center.

She says, "...the majority of people just want to maintain the quality of life they've worked so hard for. This is really about being pro-active."
