A trial date is set in a white nationalist's lawsuit against the University of Cincinnati. U.S. District Judge Susan Dlott is scheduled to hear the case March 18, 2019.Cameron Padgett is suing UCon behalf of Richard Spencer, alleging the school wanted to charge too much for security measures surrounding a speech set that had been set for March 14. The complaint calls this a free speech violation and requests a judgment of $2 million and a jury trial.
According to the lawsuit, UC told Spencer's team the total cost would be $11,333; $500 for the room rental and $10,833 for "security costs and fees." The document calls UC's criteria for calculating the fee "facially unconstitutional."
In a response, UC rejects the idea that Spencer's First Amendment rights are being infringed.
Earlier this week, Spencer's attorneys dropped a suit against The Ohio State University, which refused to allow Spencer to speak on campus.
Kent State University also rejected a request to speak on the anniversary of the National Guard shooting.
