Oktoberfest Beer Stein Winner Could Appear On 'Jimmy Kimmel' Show

Disney-ABC Television Group

Update 11:55 a.m. Friday Aug. 28:

The Oktoberfest Zinzinnati winner appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” is no sure thing, contrary to my original post below, says Rich Walburg, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber communications director.

Walburg just called me back to say he was wrong about the local winner going to "Kimmel." The winner of the Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Competition Sept. 19 on Fountain Square COULD appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” – if he or she has one of the top three times for holding the beer stein in similar contests across the country, he says.

The three strongest men and women – those who held a full beer stein the longest – will go to the “Kimmel” show, he says.

So start working out!

Original Aug. 28 post: The Oktoberfest Zinzinnati beer stein hoisting winner will compete in the national finals broadcast on  "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Oct. 13.

Rich Walburg, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber communications director, says he has confirmed the Fountain Square winner on Sept. 19 will appear on ABC's late-night show.

The Boston Beer Company announced Thursday that the national finalists for the Sam Adams Stein Hosting competition for the first time would be on live TV Oct. 13. The Fountain Square stein-holding contest during Oktoberfest Zinzinnati is part of the national contest.

The Sam Adams release says:

“Started in 2011, the Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Competition is comprised of local events at participating bars and restaurants across the U.S., and at larger Oktoberfest gatherings like the annual America's Oktoberfest event in Cincinnati. Competitors are required to hoist a one-liter glass stein filled with Samuel Adams OctoberFest, with a straight arm, for as long as possible. If you sip, spill, or bend your arm, you're out!

“This year marks the first time that craft beer lovers across the country will have the opportunity to witness the final round of the competition in a unique way: via ABC's ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live.’ On October 13th, ABC's hit late-night show will host the first-ever national Stein Hoisting Competition finals, where two winners – one male and one female – will each receive a Grand Prize trip for two to the 2016 Oktoberfest celebration in Munich.”

The Oktoberfest Zinzinnati event, billed locally as the “Sam Adams Stein Hoisting Championship,” will be 5 p.m. Saturday Sept. 19. The “championship… will take place on Fountain Square after a series of preliminary events hosted at local bars and pubs. The winner will be crowned the Samuel Adams Stein Hoisting Champion. Visit Sam Adams' website for details on preliminary rounds,” says the OktoberfestZinzinnati site. Oktoberfest is Sept. 18-20.

Samuel  Adams Beer is brewed by the Boston Beer Co. in the old Hudepohl-Schoenling plant on Central Parkway in the West End.
