More Dick Wolf dramas and no comedies are coming to NBC this fall.
Law & Order: For The Defense, produced by Wolf and Carol Mendelsohn (C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation) gives Wolf two full nights of programming with the renewals of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order: Organized Crime. NBC also will add two other dramas, Ordinary Joe (10 p.m. Monday) starring James Wolk as a recent college graduate, and LaBrea (9 p.m. Tuesday), about people who fall into a huge Los Angeles sinkhole into a primeval land.
For the first time since NBC produced a primetime lineup in 1948, NBC will not air any comedies. The network is holding sitcoms – and the final episodes of This Is Us – for midseason as part of its "52-week" strategy, instead of front-loading most new shows into the fall schedule.
NBC viewers also won't see a second version of The Voice next spring, as the network cuts back to one cycle in the 2021-22 season.
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine comedy returns for its final episodes after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in August. Keenan Thompson's Keenan, Ted Danson's Mr. Mayor and Young Rock will return with holiday episodes in December. NBC also resumes live theatrical broadcasts with Annie Live! during the holidays.
Midseason shows include two new comedies called American Auto and Grand Crew; Renee Zellweger in The Thing About Pam, a limited drama series; and unscripted series AGT: Extreme (from America's Got Talent producers), Jimmy Fallon's That's My Jam adapted from his Tonight Show music and dance contests; The Wheel; American Song Contest; more ancestry searches from Lisa Kudrow's Who Do You Think You Are? and L.A. Fire and Rescue, a Dick Wolf documentary series about the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
NBC has not determined the fate of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Manifest, Debris, Ellen’s Game of Games and Good Girls, according to Variety.
