Randy Edelman - Composer/Musician

You may not recognize the name Randy Edelman, but you have absolutely heard his music. He’s had songs recorded by Barry Manilow, Kool and the Gang, Blood Sweat and Tears, and many others.

He’s been music director for The Carpenters AND Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. He’s written the scores for movies such as Gettysburg, Twins, and 27 Dresses. And he’s recorded 11 solo albums. This accomplished musician was born in New Jersey, but studied music at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. He is returning to CCM on Sunday, January 27 to present a concert of his music at the Corbett Auditorium. He’ll be accompanied by CCM’s Philharmonia Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble. Randy Edelman joins Mark Perzel by phone in this extended interview to discuss his time at UC, his long career, and Sunday’s concert.
