The Blues: 7.26.14 - Local blues musicians!

This local special starts off with Whiskey Shambles and Kelly Richey who'll both be performing at the Smokin' Hot BBQ event at Findlay Market on Sunday, July 27th.  The 2nd set of this evening's blues show features three musicians, Jarekus Singleton, Selwyn Birchwood, & Guy Forsyth,  who'll be playing at the Cincy Blues Fest on Friday or Saturday evenings, August 1st or 2nd.

The next set includes (1) Sonny Moorman who's playing the Lebanon Blues Festival on Saturday, August 2nd, (2) the Blues Merchants who play regularly around the area and (3) Jonny Lang who's on the bill with Buddy Guy at Kettering's Fraze Pavilion on Friday, August 15th.

The final segment of the show is devoted to a commentary by music historian Dave Lewis about Cincinnati native Mamie Smith who's referred to as the Queen of the Blues.  This is a well-researched piece which also includes a number of songs by her.  Dave focuses on the accuracy of available historical references to this legendary early blues vocalist.  She's buried in Frederick Douglass Memorial Park in New York.  (1883-1946)
