Spring Programs Return To Fountain Square, Washington Park

The Genius of Water started flowing again in March of 2021 at Fountain Square.

Events and programming return to Fountain Square and Washington Park this week. 3CDC's Emily Stowe says after a year of pandemic-related cancellations, movies, live music, workout sessions and other activities are starting again, with some COVID adjustments.

"At Fountain Square we have our lunchtime events that are normally really popular. There aren't quite the office staff and people Downtown to support 10 vendors on the Square on a Tuesday right now. But we are bringing lunchtime events back in a modified format." Stowe says that can mean just one food vendor, instead of several.

She says other precautions include mask wearing, socially distanced tables and enhanced cleaning.

There were 3CDC-sponsored events in 2020, but they were limited.

The rollout of coronavirus vaccines is helping. Stowe says before moving forward, 3CDC looked at guidance from local health departments and the Centers for Disease Control, and considered what other venues across the country were doing.

Stowe says the goal is to draw people back to the city's center, and to give them something to do. "We have the tools to do all of this in a really safe and responsible manner," she says. "We're bringing back people's favorite events in order to hopefully bring some life back to the area."

Washington Park is hosting trivia on Monday nights, workouts on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and concerts Thursday and Sunday. Fountain Square hosts a painting class on Monday evenings, movies on Thursdays, concerts on Fridays and Saturday, and other markets through the week.

The first of several art markets starts this weekend. Art on Vine starts Sunday, April 11, at Washington Park with booths for up to 80 artists and vendors. After that, it will move to Fountain Square on the first Sunday of every month.
