High school football fans will see many more Friday game highlights with the premiere of WLWT-TV’s “Blitz 5 Extra” on sister station MeTV (Channel 5.2) immediately following the 11 p.m. news.
Channel 5 is taking advantage of its deep sports team, with the addition of former WCPO-TV sports videographer-producer Mark Slaughter earlier this year and freelancer Zach Wells, the former sports anchor-reporter for Channels 12 and 19.
They join Channel 5 sports director George Vogel, suburban Cincinnati native Elise Jesse (an Oak Hills High School and Mt. St. Joseph grad) and Matt Edwards on the half-hour show.
“High school football is part of the fabric of Cincinnati and our communities. WLWT is leading the way by offering more coverage of what Cincinnati loves,” said Richard Dyer, Channel 5 president and general manager, in the announcement today.
To make this work, Channels 5 and 5.2 will simulcast the 11 p.m. news on Fridays this fall. When “News 5” ends at 11:32 p.m., “Blitz 5 Extra” will start on Channel 5.2, while “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” airs on Channel 5.
WLWT’s MeTV broadcast is available over the air on Channel 5.2, and Time Warner Cable and Cincinnati Bell Fioptics.
