A new exhibit, Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth., opens at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center this Saturday, Aug. 17.
Men of Change profiles African American men – including Muhammad Ali, James Baldwin, Ta-Nehisi Coates, W.E.B Du Bois, and Kendrick Lamar – who have altered the history and culture of America through politics, sports, science, entertainment, business and religion.
Twenty-five contemporary artists were invited to reflect and celebrate the significance of these individuals through their own creative vision. Participating artists include Nina Chanel Abney, Alfred Conteh, Derrick Adams, Tariku Shiferaw and Devan Shimoyama.
Joining Cincinnati Edition to discuss Men of Change are Freedom Center Deputy Director Jacqueline Dace; artist Alfred Conteh; and Project Director with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service, Marquette Folley.
Men of Change: Power. Triumph. Truth. opens for the first-time to the public on Saturday, Aug. 17, and runs through Dec. 1, 2019 at the Freedom Center (@FreedomCenter) before continuing on a three-year, 10-city tour. Tickets are $10 with general admission and $5 for members.
