A Look At Services Available For The Growing Number Of Women Veterans

Female_officer_saluting.jpg

Today, women make up 20 percent of new recruits to our armed services, and the percentage of U.S. veterans who are women is now about 10 percent. But women transitioning from the service to civilian life face many challenges that are unique to them, or greater than those faced by their male counterparts.

Joining us to discuss women veteran's? issues and efforts to serve their needs are Cincinnati VA Medical Center Women Veterans Program Manager Shirley May; ; and, gynecologist Dr. Deborah Rouse-Rains, who provides services  for the Cincinnati VAMC Women’s Health Center.

The American Red Cross, the VA, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs are sponsoring a free event to provide resources and breast cancer awareness for women veterans. The event takes place Saturday, October 24, from noon to 4:00 p.m., at the American Red Cross Cincinnati Chapter, 2111 Dana Avenue.
