As Schools Begin To Open, Remember The Critical Importance Of Immunizations

School-age children, from preschoolers to college students, need vaccines. While it's true that some vaccine-preventable diseases have become very rare thanks to vaccines, the United States experienced a record number of measles cases last year, and approximately 9,000 cases of whooping cough have been reported to the Centers for Disease Control already in 2015. Here to discuss the importance of immunizations is Dr. Oded Zmora, UC Health family physician and assistant professor in the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine; and Dr. Glenn Egelman, executive director of University Health Services at the University of Cincinnati.

To learn more about immunizations and specific state regulations for children entering day care or school visit the CDC, or the Ohio, Kentucky or Indiana state departments of health immunization information sites.
