NKU now tobacco free

Northern Kentucky University is now tobacco free.

The university approved the policy a year ago and it took effect January 1.

Spokesman Chris Cole says the policy is more than just a smoking ban.

"It includes e-cigs, smokeless tobacco, chew, dip, any tobacco or tobacco-simulating product," says Cole. "It's a pretty comprehensive tobacco free campus policy."

Cole says the university has been preparing for the change for a year. Signs have been posted around campus. Previously designated smoking areas have been removed.

Cole says NKU is offering smoking cessation help to those looking to quit.
