Arts and health come together to get Cincinnati moving

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend 20 minutes of vigorous activity three times per week. But a community health study finds Cincinnatians don't get nearly enough. Interact for Health and ArtsWave are partnering to try to fix that.

They're awarding $300,000 in grants to 21 agencies to provide active living programs. Interact for Health's Jaime Love says "Join the Fun" is all about getting people moving.

"We know that often people want to be active but they feel like either there isn't access to anything in their community or they don't know what to do or they don't have someone to do it with," says Love. "So this is an opportunity for these 21 organizations that were funded to put on physical activity events that people can come out and participate in and hopefully try something they haven't had an opportunity to try before."

From the Join the Fun website:

Active living promotes cardiovascular fitness, strengthens bones and muscles, reduces the risk of many chronic diseases and helps people maintain a healthy weight. It reduces stress, enhances self-esteem and fosters an overall sense of well-being. We want to invest in new events that encourage people to get active. We want to get people moving no matter what their age or ability. Interact for Health is partnering with Artswave to support 21 organizations to plan new, recurring mass-particpation active-living events, develop outreach and promotion of existing events, or recruit new participants.
