Lauren Hill basketball game raises more than $58,000

After appearing in a wheel chair last week, Lauren Hill stood on her own Tuesday before a crowd of students at Mount Saint Joseph University. She came to thank them for turning out for her first collegiate basketball game and raising funds for The Cure Starts Now Foundation.

I don't even have a reaction. I'm just still in shock. It's kind of like walking through a dream... I mean, it's a good dream. ~Lauren Hill

"I just want to thank everybody for supporting and still supporting even though the game was two weeks ago," says Hill. "It feels like it was just yesterday. "I'm really happy that this is happening and we've got some funds raised (for) research."

Xavier University (where the game was played) joined MSJ in presenting a check for $58,776 to the Foundation. That brings the total amount raised in Hill's honor to more than $324,000. The money will go directly to the International DIPG Registry at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.

The registry collects brain tissue samples and patient information with a goal of finding better treatments for diffuse instrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). DIPG is a rare, inoperable and fatal brain tumor found where the spinal cord meets the brain.
