Cincinnati Parks Reopens Road Through Eden Park's Twin Lakes

Cincinnati Parks has reopened Eden Park's Twin Lakes to vehicular traffic after concerns were raised about the "unintended impacts" of its closure.

The Cincinnati Park Board approved a proposal to indefinitely close the driveway running through the Twin Lakes overlook area on Thursday, May 7.

The closure was recommended by staff who say vehicle/pedestrian safety along Lake Drive is a problem with the road bisecting the area.

However, some argued the closure made accessing the park less safe.

"In the weeks since the announcement of the indefinite closure, significant community concerns have been raised about the unintended impacts of the closure," City Manager Patrick Duhaney wrote in a June 15 memo to the Park Board. "Specifically, the concerns center around the reduction in parking and ease of access to the park for those who travel to Twin Lakes from throughout the city. As a result, the previous Park Board decision was reevaluated and the gates were reopened on Saturday, June 13."

Parks Director Kara Kish on May 7 told board members the majority of public comments received at the time supported closing the road, though there were a few concerned about parking and some neighbors worried about the increase in traffic on nearby residential streets.
