Former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., speaks during a campaign event at Alexis Dupont High School in Wilmington, Del., Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020.

The presumptive Democratic ticket is set: former Vice President Joe Biden tapped California Senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate in the race for the White House.

The decision comes months after the two sparred in high-profile fashion during a Democratic primary debate in which Harris criticized Biden's friendship with former supporters of segregationists and his opposition to bussing in the 1970s.

Now the former primary rivals will work together to unseat President Donald Trump, who continues to lag behind in polls as the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic looks even less clear and effective.

Trump also recently turned his focus to warning "suburban housewives" about low-income housing in their neighborhoods, as well as a prediction that Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) would be in charge of such a program, moves that critics identified as racist.
