On WVXU-FM's "Around Cincinnati" at 7 p.m. Sunday, I'll be interviewing steel guitarist Cameron Cochran about playing country music all around town during King Records Month in September.

On "Around Cincinnati," we'll talk about his four events during "King Records Month." Other segments on the show are host Lee Hay's interview with Brian Powers about "King Records Month," the first in a new series of Katie Laur stories for "Around Cincinnati" (about John Hartford), Lunken Airport Aviation Days Labor Day weekend with the Cincinnati Warbirds, and Xavier University's jazz concert series.
Cochran, a Dixie High School graduate, has loved the sound of the steel guitar since he was a teen.
"I just wanted that sound," he says.
His September schedule:
--A joint appearance with "Midwestern Hayride" steel guitarist Chuck Rich at Shake It Records, 4156 Hamilton Ave., Northside, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. It is free and open to the public.
--Playing Hawaiian music on a 1945 Rickenbacker Bakelite steel guitar in a free concert at the Erlanger branch of the Kenton County Public Library, 401 Kenton Lands Road, Erlanger, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14.
--Playing the hits of steel guitarist Jerry Byrd at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at the main Public Library downtown, 800 Vine St., with guitarist Harold Kennedy and bassist Chris Douglas.
--Saluting Channel 5's old country-western show with a "Hayride" music and comedy concert which Cochran hopes will become a podcast series. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Woodward Theater, 1404 Main St., Over-the-Rhine. Tickets ($10) are available at Woodward Theater or through his Hayridelive website.
