WLWT-TV Hires Allison Rogers as Weekend Forecaster
Mississippi native Allison Rogers has been hired by WLWT-TV as weekend meteorologist to replace Erik Zarnitz, who left in October.
Rogers, a 2015 Mississippi State University graduate, has been a meteorologist and reporter for WYMT-TV, the CBS station in Hazard, KY.
"Allison's experience, both in the studio and covering extreme weather in the field, makes her an excellent addition to the WLWT Weather team," said Jeff Benscoter, Channel 5 news director, in the station's announcement.
Rogers grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She decided to become a meteorologist after witnessing the destruction of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In addition to her Geoscience degree from Mississippi State, she also has earned the American Meteorological Society's Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and the National Weather Association seals of approval.
The hiring of Rogers means that Channel 5 has turned over half of its four on-air weather positions – and both weekend meteorologists -- since May. Rogers replaces Zarnitz, who left the station in October after seven years. Ashley Brown was hired in July as weekend morning forecast after Jennifer Schack quit in May after the birth of her third child.
