Everybody loves Patricia? Emmy-winning actress Patricia Heaton, who starred nine years on ABC's The Middle after nine years on Everybody Loves Raymond, returns to CBS this fall in Carol's Second Act as a 50-year-old rookie doctor.
In addition to Heaton, CBS viewers will see Bill Gardell (Mike & Molly) in a new sitcom, Bob (Hearts) Abishola, playing a salesman who falls in love with his Nigerian nurse (Folake Olowofoyeku, Transparent) after his heart attack.
In CBS' third new comedy, Walter Goggins (Justified, Sons of Anarchy, Django Unchained) plays a widower with two daughters who starts dating again. They fill the void from the end of Big Bang Theory and cancellations of Life In Pieces, Fam, Murphy Brown and Happy Together.
CBS also will debut two dramas for a total of five scripted shows. ABC, NBC and Fox will only launch three scripted shows each this fall.
CBS dramas – the network's staple for decades – get an injection of color with a couple of African American stars from Netflix's Luke Cage -- Mike Colter exploring demonic possessions in Evil, and Simone Missick as a Los Angeles judge in All Rise.

Nora O'Donnell replaces Jeff Glor as CBS Evening News anchor as the broadcast moves to Washington D.C…. John Dickerson goes from CBS This Morning to 60 Minutes… Marie Osmond joins Carrie Ann Inaba, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood in September on The Talk, replacing Sara Gilbert.
