On this page, you will find his weekly column, Politically Speaking; the Monday morning political chats with News Director Maryanne Zeleznik and other news coverage by Wilkinson. A native of Dayton, Ohio, Wilkinson has covered every Ohio gubernatorial race since 1974, as well as 16 presidential nominating conventions. Along with politics, Wilkinson also covered the 2001 Cincinnati race riots, the Lucasville prison riot in 1993, the Air Canada plane crash at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 1983, and the 1997 Ohio River flooding. And, given his passion for baseball, you might even find some stories about the Cincinnati Reds here from time to time.

Tuesday's An Election Day, But Most Have No Reason To Vote

Tuesday’s an election day in Ohio, but very few voters in southwest Ohio will find that their polling places are open.

Ohio has 88 counties, but there are only 12 issues on the ballot in 11 of those counties.

In southwest Ohio, only Hamilton and Clermont counties have ballot issues; and only in three communities.

In Hamilton County, Mt. Healthy residents will decide a 1.5 mill renewal levy for street repair and construction. St. Bernard voters have a seven mill renewal levy for current operating expenses.

In Clermont County, the village of Bethel has an additional eight mill levy for police protection on the ballot.

Only polling places in those communities with issues on the ballot will be open Tuesday. The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Howard Wilkinson is in his 50th year of covering politics on the local, state and national levels.
