AK Steel CEO Retiring

PR Newswire

The president of West Chester-based AK Steel is retiring. James Wainscott has been with the company since 1995 and was named Chief Executive Officer in 2003. A company release says he'll stay on as Chairman of the Board of Directors after his retirement January 1.

Roger Newport will take over as CEO. He first joined AK Steel in 1985. Kirk Reich will serve as President and Chief Operating Officer.

In a statement, Wainscott says Newport "has the vision, strategic focus and the tenacity necessary to lead our company into the future. I am confident that Roger will do an excellent job in designing and executing our company's strategy, and his leadership will help position the company for sustained success in the years ahead."

AK Steel employs about 8,000 people at 12 plants in Ohio and five other states.
