A Cincinnati fire truck roars to a Downtown emergency call.

The Cincinnati Fire Department will have a new Chief starting this summer. Officials announced Friday they are promoting Assistant Chief Michael Washington, Sr. to the job. He'll take over when Chief Roy Winston retires in July.

Washington has been with the department for nearly three decades. He currently leads the Fire Prevention and Community Risk Reduction Division.

He's worked previously as Fire Investigator, Fire Captain, Public Information Officer, and District Fire Chief.

Chief Winston served as Fire Chief since 2017 and was with the department for about 33 years. He retires July 24.
