In a normal year it can be a struggle to provide shelter to all of the people experiencing homelessness in our area. But this isn't a normal time.
According to Kevin Finn with Strategies to End Homelessness, we may have 250 fewer shelter beds available in Hamilton County this winter. In addition, he is seeing 35% more people sleeping out on the streets under the pandemic. These numbers could add up to a perfect storm of problems this winter in Hamilton County.
Now, Maslow's Army, a non-profit that works on an emergency basis with people experiencing homelessness, has a plan it hopes can help. The organization would like to open a day shelter in the site of the former Queensgate Correctional Facility. But to do that, Maslow's Army is looking for CARES Act funding from the city of Cincinnati to lease the space.
